Hi,

I have an old External 320 GB NTFS-formatted drive, that I need to use with my mac.
A google search reveals that OS X cannot write on NTFS drives, is that true with the latest Leopard version?

If yes, is there any good software to do it? I heard that MacFuse is very slow when transferring files. Or should I rather copy all the files to a windows computer, then format the drive to HFS+, then copy the files back with MacDrive?

Transfer the data off it, and then reformat it into HFS+/FAT32?

OSX can read NTFS (and quite quickly).

So do as you suggest above - but just transfer the files to your Mac - and cut out the PC/MacDrive step.

Threads from this forum say the opposite thing https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/462821/:confused:

That thread's from March 08. MacFUSE is being constantly updated - it got to 2.0 in December. There were a lot of improvements.

That said, I certainly didn't see a huge difference in write speeds previously - certainly not 300 Mb in 20 minutes like someone in that thread saw. Writing to NTFS is as fast from my Mac as from my work PC.
