Hey, I am in urgent need of some advice.

My macbook pro's charger (bought new from apple last aug) went out and I have 25% battery left.

Does anyone know the pinouts of the magsafe plug and the voltage and amperage required by the battery?

I can easily make a power source but I need the pinouts and polarity to keep my 'book from dying.

PLS HELP THIS IS URGENT
 
The Magsafe connector is patented by Apple and they have not allowed others to make one. Finding out the proper pin outs will be hard and making it charge will be even harder. Because as of this writing, only Apple Magsafe connectors have been able to charge a Macbook /Pro /Air.

Of course it is, but I am not making it
I am simply cutting the cord off after the transformer and wiring in my own power supply.

It would be as simple as taking a dmm to the pins and measuring the voltage, but since mine is dead I cant do it.


I am at 23% now
 
The part that most likely failed is the connection going into the connector or the connector itself. The power brick is usually still in working order.

Me: WTF I paid 80 dollars for this thing after I lost the original :(
 
You could always take it in and play (be?) stupid and ask why it isn't working. Most of the time they'll replace it.
 
Holy crap. Who has time to re-engineer Apple's magsafe pinout much less string one together?

$25 on ebay.

I will try putting it together tonight, so wish me luck.

If I dont post soon, its cuz it didnt work and my bat is dead XD
 
Have some faith in the DIY'er!

So, this post means that the computer didnt die!

Immediately after seeing my girl I came back and the book was at 4% so I got to work in a jiffy.

I already have another charger on the way, so I thought; "what could I lose its a broken charger" so I cut the cord off and to my pleasant surprise there were only two conductors inside it. One outer (which is always ground/-) and one inner, which is positive. And I read the printing on the bottom side and it said 16.5V/3.5 amps dc.

I hooked it up straight to my sound system, which runs on a small 12V motorcycle battery and the green light turned on, but no charge, so I knew I had to have more voltage, but where????

And I remembered the lipo charger (runs on the 12V system) I use on my RC cars has up to 22 vots and quite a few amps so I set it to 16V 3 amps and it didnt work due to a voltage check by the charger.

So I tricked it by using two 9v batteries in series until it gave some juice, and voila orange light behold.

But it was giving close to 20 volts while charging so I backed it to 14 volt charge at 3 amps, and now were hovering at 16.8V 1 amp.

Its gonna take forever to charge, but it will keep me online until the ebay charger gets here.

That is wacky, kooky, mickey-moused, jerry-rigged, totally unstable, possibly dangerous, kinda unnecessary, sorta dumb, and pretty sweet.

Well done, impatient one.

I take all of the above except totally unstable.

Its meant to charge lipo cells, and is fully regulated! :eek:
