i'm creating a new thread to cast a wider net, but for reference, i did start an early thread asking an innocent question about the capacity of the AirPods case.
anyway, i'm hoping both 2nd and 1st generation owners can comment on this... How many full charge cycles are you getting out of your battery case?
Apple says that with the case, one can get "more than 24 hours" of use out of their Airpods which themselves can provide up 5 hours of power.
based on this statement, i would assume that the case should provide at least 19 hours of capacity, or about 4 full recharges of the Airpods.
in my experience thus far with my second generation Airpods, that does not appear to be the case. I have a slew of numbers, but i'm projecting, based on smaller charging cycles (of 10-30% capacity used on my Airpods), that i'd see only two full recharge cycles. After about 6 hours of usage, i am left with 52% on the case after my Airpods have been topped off to 100%
i should note also note that my Airpods themselves are doing better than apple specifies (likely due to my lower listening volume): i am projecting about 6 hours of use if i were to ever drain my Airpods down to 0% themselves.
so based on that, i'm seeing roughly 2 charge cycles of capacity in the case. disappointed by this, i went to Apple support who i spent over an hour talking on the phone. i had already done some of the troubleshooting for them (resetting the Airpods, charging back up to 100% and making sure the system wasn't leaking power in the background (it isn't appreciably)), and in the end, they sent me to the Apple store so they could "capture" my set for EFFA testing and to receive a brand new replacement set.
However, even though i've only had this new set for a day, i'm encountering much of the similar behavior. i will get nowhere near 4 recharge cycles from the case given my limited usage/numbers thus far. these Airpods too will give me close to 6 hours of capacity given my listening patterns.
anyway, i'd love to hear other people's experiences. it seems odd that i would have two units perform the same way. i will continue to run some tests before going to Apple again, but i'm hoping our great community can shed some collective light on this issue.
