I am trying to dump MS Word for Pages, and would like to come up with a nice procedure and set of styles to accomplish the following (which while do-able in Word, was no piece of cake to figure out there either, due to the bugginess of Word's numbering function):

Example of a paragraph layout:

This is a level 1
1. This is level 2
2. This is level 2
a. This is level 3
* This is level 4
* This is level 4
b. This is level 3
3. This is level 2

The document is composed of paragraphs that have the same general layout as above, with the exception that all lines are single spaced (cannot actually produce this format in this edit box). The only place where additional spacing is used is between paragraphs, which is not a problem.

While you can easily format manually the whole document into paragraphs as shown, the trick is to also get the following "automation:"

  1. After entering the level 1 text, the following style is the level 2 style.
  2. The level 2 in each case restarts at 1.
  3. Once I get it working, I want to set up hot keys for the 4 styles shown.

So far it has been pretty simple to get mostly the way I want it. However, the style used for "level 2" does not renumber from 1. For example, in a hypothetical paragraph following the one shown in the example, the first level 2 line starts with number 4 instead of number 1.

I would actually consider this a possible Pages bug, if I were not so new to using it.

Any ideas?
