In iWork, when making a chart, the portion of the Inspector that governs equation formation is called...guess what...Numbers!

Was this what it was supposed to be all along?
 
Although the majority of users may need only that much of the application, I believe that they are still working on something far more comprehensive.

It seems apparent that they are working on a strategy, as well as additional modules to the application suite without causing Microsoft heartache. Note that they've used Address Book instead of adapting FileMaker in order to do a mail merge.

It may be a little late, but next year, they may have two new applications in the suite.

I think apple will be looking to make a Leopard splash, and that a seriously beefed up iWork package will do that. Should dove-tail nicely with the newly replete Intel Mac line-up too.
