I have been sent a template from microsoft office on a windows pc , how do i edit it in number and send it back to the persons so they can open it in ms office on their windows pc and will the document be stored in the cloud so i can edit in future on my ipad in numbers?

Right click and open it numbers when you save it save it as an excel version the options are there. If you have icloud set up to store your numbers files then yes of course.

Use Numbers' "Export To..." function (there is no Save As in recent versions of Numbers).

If you've set up iCloud Drive you can save both the native Numbers version of the file and the version exported as Excel. If you use "plain old" iCloud, it will only save the Numbers version.
