Hello,

I currently have a 2006 model MacBook (Black) with integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics. I'm looking to upgrade to a new MacBook Pro model.

My biggest requirement is that the laptop can output 1080p HD video content to a 46" television (minimum) and do it well.

Will the integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics be good enough, or should I consider a model with the additional 9600M GT?

Thanks for your advice

Thomas

Remember you need TOSLINK for audio, as the Mini DisplayPort in its current incarnation does not support sound.

The Geforce 9400M should do a bang up job of displaying HD content.

My current Macbook will display most content quite nicely on external monitors (22") and TVs (46") but it struggles with HD content especially if it is 720p or greater.

I'm hoping the 13" Macbook pro will do the job, but I think I'll wait for the next round of MacBook Pro updates.

All I'm sayin' is, if you make a sandwich, you're going to have to eat that sandwich later on. Keep that mind while choosing your next laptop.

what program are you using to playback the video? i suggest plex.

I just bought a 13" uMBP and the graphics handle 1080p video VERY well. I was in the same boat cause I use an external monitor (27" not 46") to play a lot of movies and such on and I wasn't sure in the 9400 graphics were going to sustain good enough, but I'm pleasantly surprised. No hiccups what so ever. Hope this helps.
