"NVIDIA GPU Test" In store vs. Hardware Stress Test

Does anybody know exactly what this is, and if it's at all different from the hardware stress test that comes with disc 1?

Does this stress test (if different) succeed in replicating your GPU problems (bad 8600 gpu owners).

I think it might check the stepping, or possibly the serial # of the GPU itself to see if it's from the bad batch or not. Or at least it sure seems to from what I've been told about it.
