*disclaimer* if this is already widely known then I apologize and you can call me a noob* :p

Alright I just found out the most amazing news! The Nvidia GT 120 works with the 2008 Mac Pro despite what Apple.com says. This is good news for us 2008-Octo-core owners who want to use an LED cinema display and save some money over getting the ATI 4870 card :D

OWC has tested it and so have several other guys here http://blog.macsales.com/602-testing-those-new-graphics-cards

A guy also tested the GT 120 with the older ATI 2600 and they both work flawlessly together.

This made my day and I'll be purchasing a new led cinema display and GT 120 graphics card once I get my tax return.

2008 octo-core owners rejoice! w00t! :)

I could've sworn Apple's website said the GT120 was compatible with 2008 MPs.

EDIT: guess they removed it. When it was first put up for sale it said it was compatible with the previous generation.

This is very useful to know. Thanks!

A Question: Can anyone who has a GT120 card confirm my suspicion that it is powered only off the PCI interface and does not need a supplementary power connector? This would be handy for those of us that want a secondary 200 series NVIDIA card for Windows use, as it would free up both supplementary 6-pin PCI-E power supplies.

I don't have one, but I can confirm for you it doesn't need an extra power connector. Just look at Apple's page regarding it. :)

Is there an issue with adding the drivers before putting the card in like there is with the GTX 285?

Cheers,
