After using an Apple TV 4 for the past year as a plex client, I decided to get a nvidia shield to run plex server. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get the connected USB drive to show up on my network, which means I can't add media directly from my computer Without physically moving the drive. The access over local network button doesn't show up in the settings/storage menu no matter what I try. I've 'adopted' the drive and allowed the shield to format it, reinstalled the latest version of plex from e play store, deleted plex cache/data, reset the whole shield etc...still don't have that option. And without that functionality, the shield is useless to me.
I've already spent 3-4 hours trying to get it to work. I've now packed it up and was going to send it back to amazon, but wanted to ask here first in case someone has encountered the same problem and solved it.
By comparison, the Apple TV experience is smooth, uncluttered and works as advertised -- too bad Apple crippled it. If only I could connect an external drive to my Apple TV and install Plex server on it, I'd have a perfect setup...
Thanks,
PDE
