I’d like to setup external fast storage for my MBP and need some help. I’d like over 2K MB/s read/write speeds, sustained.

So, I’ve looked at products like the Samsung X5, which sounds like what I need except that there maybe heat issues and sustained speeds are questionable. There are some small enclosures out there where heat is also the main concern.

Since portability is not a requirement for me, I believe a proper enclosure with active cooling etc, even if bulkier but more stable would be a better solution. Ideally what I’d want is be able to take something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TN1MNJ4/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_gFp-EbTZERFBY and drop it in an enclosure that can support it with the necessary sustained speeds and I am having trouble identifying such enclosure. Would anyone be able to recommend something? I’ve heard Akitio enclosures coming back in google searches but I’m not sure they support NVMe m2 ssds. I’m just not very familiar with these technologies yet.

Thanks

So that one you linked doesn’t support TB3 speeds. It’s capped at 1.5K MB/s. Probably because it can’t handle the heat.

The Shell Thunder is $140 at Amazon and has a built-in fan, so you should be able to get 2Gbps with the right SSD.

Sumthin' tells me that ANY enclosure/blade you find right now, running at the speeds you want, is going to run HOT -- and perhaps even "throttle back" while doing so.
