That is not inconsistent. The first Trojan was discovered on the macrumors forums in 2007 I believe, but it was not designed to cause any issues if you got infected - it was merely a proof of concept.

According to internet security company Intego as many as 20.000 computers were infected by this.

Reports out there now indicate that a botnet consisting of Mac computers infected by these Trojans has been activated and begun to attack other systems outside the botnet.
It looks like you only have to worry if you installed CS4 or iWork from a torrent, and were already infected.

So, does a trojan require causing issues to be considered a trojan? If not, the first trojan was from 2007 and this new trojan is not the first. Or, if so, the trojan from 2007 was not the first and this new one is. Seems inconsistent to me.
 
I got a trojan once from a video converter through torrents. Just used Clam Xav to get rid of it and that was that!
