O2 Business Contract User Wanting An iPhone

I currently am on a business contract with O2, getting nearly unlimited calls and texts paying next to nothing each month. And I am of course wanting to get the new iPhone 3G, however the o2 contract phones do not get changed until next year. If i was to buy the new iphone from ebay or whatever and get it fully unlocked would things such as visual voice mail work? And what would be he deal with the internet usage on it? Can i get any bolt ons even though im on a contract phone? And is there anything else i should look out for or be wary of? (e.g. would any features not work etc...)
