At today's exchange rate the Brits are paying $562.24 for an 8GB phone, as opposed to $400 in the US.

According to the Financial Accounting Standards Board, Apple receives a whopping $18 per month from AT&T for each iPhone customer. If you divide the difference, $162.24 by 6, for the months remaing, it works out to $27.04.

Wonder how much Apple is getting from the higher UK price, minus shipping and import fees?

The UK price includes VAT at 17.5%.

If you take that off the price, the price difference reduces to about $78. It does cost more over here, but not that much more.

Thanks for the info. The sales tax in San Francisco is 8.5%, which brings the total to $433. Other cites may b a bit higher or lower.

Everything (pretty much) costs more here than in the USA.

That is why with the £ -> $ rate so good at the moment a lot of people are having shopping weekends in NYC.
