o2 mms sent to iphone email account doesn't display attachment

hi, I was sent an message from an o2 phone to my gmail account, the message contained a link to the 02 site where I could view the picture, but the email also had the picture as an attachment. The message list had a paperclip next to the message title, but opening the message didn't show anything. Using Mail on my imac and gmail via safari on the showed the attachment. Why not the iphone?
