Anyone know if O2 (in the UK going) to offer a way to upgrade a Gen 1 iPhone to the new one ?
Anyone have any intel on this ?

Nobody knows yet. Orange in France do have a pretty sweet upgrade deal, where you can trade in your old phone and pay 50 euros to upgrade. If they don't check your contract status, it might be worth taking a train to Paris ;)

I wouldn't expect O2 to do this. But then, Apple might put pressure on them if 1st gen support costs are too high. Of course, Apple don't make failure rates public, but if the 1st gen model had design flaws that led to problems, we could see an upgrade deal. Or if O2 want to lower operating costs by shutting down or shrinking the EDGE network and moving to 3G. The iPhone is a different thing for Apple, because they have to rely on 3rd party services and contracts that last for some time after purchase. There's no precedent for this.
