I, like many others are now following the official Twitter account of O2 UK.
Ten minutes ago, responding to an inquisitive customer, they announced
that Pre-orders would not be available for the iPhone 3GS, in the UK.

Just thought I'd give everyone the heads up.
If you want one, you'll have to queue for it this year!

That fits with that I was told earlier today by O2 customer services - they said phone back on the 19th to upgrade. (Thankfully I'm a month of out contract on my 1st gen iPhone so eligible for an upgrade.)

The Carphone Warehouse site lets you register for updates, and I saw on another thread that they will start taking pre-orders on Thursday. I really don't want to have to get involved with them - it is bad enough having to deal with O2! If only I could upgrade in an AppleStore!
