I'm a new MacBook Air user and I've noticed that sometimes I hear a slight crackling or distorted sound coming from the speakers particularly when using iMessage. Sometimes I hear it the a message is received and also when I send a message. I just use the default sound. It also seems that there is sometimes some distortion or lack of clarity in sound on Youtube videos (although this may be due to Youtube sound quality based on testing the same song with iPhone XS). I Googled this and the only thing I could find was issues with 2018 Macbooks and speaker issues which was supposedly resolved by a software patch. I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed this or if it is common. There's a good possibility that many people don't or haven't even noticed this but whenever I get a new electronic item, I am always nitpicking over any potential issue while I am within my return window.

I am well aware of the discussions on heating and throttling and based on my use am not here not discuss this as it does not pertain to my use.

As an update the crackling sound is on the "swoosh" sound when sending an iMessage and it actually must be some kind of weird software glitch because it makes the same sound even if I have my AirPods connected to my MacBook. The speakers appear to be okay.

Mods feel free to delete this thread if possible.

After doing lots of research I finally found it! You have to reset your core audio! Go to terminal and type in “sudo killall coreaudiod” then type in your password. Your speakers will stop working for one second and restart without the issue. If for some reason your speakers don’t work anymore after this you have to restart your speakers manually with this code “sudo launchctl stop com.apple.audio.coreaudiod && sudo launchctl start com.apple.audio.coreaudiod”
