Occasionaly goes unresponsive when playing videos

Once in a while (happened about 7 times over the last weekend) when I play a video, even on youtube, the computer stops being responsive, the only thing that moves is the mouse cursor, leaving me no other choice but doing an emergency shut down (holding 5 seconds the power button) I'm afraid it might be a hardware issue, like a video card problem. but hopefully it's not. Know anything I could do to fix this problem???
