I don't know whether this is he right forum - I suspect it's not. I wrote to support to OWC but I got a okie-doke answer.

I bought three of these OWC Dual Raid enclosures. https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MED3ER0GB/

I bought one first. It kept dropping offline. Maybe it's a security thing. But I use these for backup late at night when I'm seeping. I get back the next morning, or any time when I'm away for any length of time over an hour or two, a dialogue saying that the drive XYZ was closed improperly or something. I wrote OWC. They asked what the raid setting was. I told them and they just said. "Hm. I don't know."

So like a dummy I thought it was a bug in how I was setting things up. They were cheap and I needed two more. I've been collecting 2TB HDs, replaced by SSD, so it was perfect, I thought, to use the spinning drives as back up. I bought two more.

And they do exactly the same thing! SO . . . I've never run a raid system. These are only two drives per enclosure. Maybe (I hope) I AM doing something wrong. But the all just close and start on their own intermittently. If they're inactive they close and reopen and close. I suppose that's great to save the life of the drive, but SuperDuper ends up not backing them up at night.

I don't know what the setting should be. I'm using MacPro5,1 2009 3.46gz. Either Sierra 10.12.6 or Mojave 10.14.5. It looks like I have them all on Independent mode.

OK. It's not just the OWC Dual Elite. All of my external drives are going offline. It must be an OS thing. And it's from Sierra to High Sierra and Mojave. I have two MacPro5,1. Maybe that's it? Unsupported Mac issue?

OH yeah. It's not just the drives. USB. My printer goes offline too. What should I check?
