odd behavior with sound, have to unplug headphones, then plug to get sound

I was going through my apps folder, I saw one called audacity, was curious about it & launched it, then closed it.


Ever since then, the sound on my mac is weird, when I start up my mac, I get the start up noise, but when I have my headphones plugged in, & try to play music or a YouTube video, anything with sound, I get no sound, I have to unplug & then plug my headphones, only after doing this do I have sound again.

I am on a mac mini 2011 running Lion 10.7.5

Audacity is a free audio app, which you must have downloaded at some point..If you don't use it Id use spotlight to get rid of it, then try a SMC re-set of your Mac:
