Had a weird Mojave bug that I wanted to document in case anyone else sees the same.
I upgraded to Mojave yesterday and everything seemed fine. However, today I found that I could no longer search through my text PDFs in Preview. No matter which PDFs I opened, the search box would not return any results, even for words I could see right there on the page. Searching around on line produced no results.
I rebooted several times, deleted Preview.app preferences, etc. Nothing worked.
Then I opened one of the PDFs in PDFExpert and run a search in there, search results came up.
I reopened the PDF in Preview, and this time, when I tried a search, it seemed to do some indexing and returned search results. After that, any other PDF I tried in Preview behaved normally.
Seems like an odd quirk, but it's resolved now. If you run into the same problem, try opening a PDF in some other app and do a search. Hopefully it will kickstart whatever indexing was blocked and resolve it for you as well.
