Recently this problem has started happening.

When I download a short movie clip ( using Safari ) - it shows the file downloading in the Download window. If its in the .WMV file format - it shows the file with a quicktime file icon, but still with the .wmv extention. And this is how it appears on my desktop.

It then automatically launches quicktime - which tells me it cant open this file. Not better if I double click on the file - same deal. To play the clip I have to manually open Windows Media Player, go to the menu, choose 'Open' and find the file. They wont work if I drag them to the WMP icon on the dock.

after they have played the first time in WMP - their icon changes to WMP icon and they then behave normally.

Before opening them, I've tried using Get Info to change the app they are opened with - but this doesn't work.

Not a major problem, more of a pain in the arse.

Any ideas?

cheers

You said you went into info and changed the default application.
You did change it to Windows Media Player, right?
Maybe you have corrupt preference file somewhere.

Yellow - you may be onto something there - how can I check - or is it just a re-install?

Look for "Flip4Mac WMV Import.component" in /Library/QuickTime

If it's there, try removing it to your Desktop or something and restart. Then try your movie again.
