I want 2 hard drives on the IDE port of my powermac g5. Therefore i have to split the power supply to the optical drive with a y molex cable.

What is the power consumption of a optical drive and is it equivelent to 2 IDE hard drives?

I took out the sony ODD already and figured:
P = U * I
12v * 2 a = 24 watt
5v * 1,6a = 8 watts.

When i googled i found that a hard drive consumes about 7~8 watts.

So am i in the green here? Will this work?
And what if it doesnt work?

Post scriptum. I know there are ide > sata coverters but id rather have it this way.
