All of a sudden my alert sounds (all the stock ones, no custom ones) are messed up. The one I use the most (Basso) just sounds like static now when it is triggered (e.g. backspacing at the prompt in terminal). Also, the individual .aiff files will not play in any player.

Haven't been able to find anything remotely like this with extensive googling.

System specs in signature.

[edit] the "pop" sounds you get when you adjust the volume is stuffed up too!

Do those sounds come via the internal speakers of the MBP or the ACD or some other speakers?
Have you checked System Preferences > Sound > Output yet and seen what device is selected?
Does it still happen after a restart?
Does it happen with another (temporarily created) account?

And you forgot to mention what MBP size you have (13" or 15") in your signature.

Internal ACD speakers.

Yes. Display Audio is selected.

Getting ready to try that...

Haven't tried it, yet.

It's a 5,1. 15".

New account didn't do anything, but restart did. It's fixed now. I'm curious to know if maybe virtualbox caused this because it's the only thing new I've done for a while.
