Odd time machine error

it seems time machine is sometimes backing up, but others i get this message.

yesterday it wouldnt back up once, today it says the latest backup was 10 minutes ago, not "last backup failed" what is going on?

If I were you I would contact Apple on this matter to see if they can provide some insight.

I'm going to step in with some advice.

The next time you run a Time Machine backup have Console open. (Applications/Utilities/Console.app) It'd be helpful if you can post what error backupd (Time Machine) spits out under All Messages.

I've had similar errors with deep node traversal and I resolved them with Repairing the Disk via Disk Utility. Be patient though it takes a long time to repair.
