I've got a Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo that I'm trying to get working w/ my MacBook Pro (13" M2).

The goal is to have a setup where everything is plugged into a TB4 dock and I can just switch that dock from my PC to my work laptop (the MBP).

I've currently got the monitor plugged into the dock using a DP 1.4 -> Type-C cable from Club 3D (https://www.club-3d.com/en/quick-view/2487/). Everything works fine on the Windows PC.

When I plug it into the MacBook, the laptop recognizes the display (I can see it under Sys Prefs. -> Displays) but there's no output to it. This happens regardless of it being plugged in through the dock or directly to one of the type-c ports on the laptop.

I exchanged a few emails w/ Club 3D where they recommended that I set the monitor to 60hz.
Doing this didn't fix it either. (As an aside, I couldn't get the refresh rate options to show up in Sys Prefs. I had to set the refresh rate on the display's menu while it was plugged in to my PC).

The monitor has a setting where you can change the DP version that is used. I changed it from 1.4 to 1.2 and... voila! The MacBook was now correctly outputting to the display.

Unfortunately, this makes it so I can't run my monitor above 60hz on the PC...

I guess now what I'm trying to figure out is: is this an issue with my DP -> C adapter or is it a problem w/ the laptop's support for modern DP features.

I have a feeling it's the latter. I did spend some time looking into it but wasn't able to find any conclusive answers.

My 13” M1 MBP plays nicely with my LG 32UL500 4k displaying full 3840x2160 @ 60 Hz using the supplied Display Port 1.4 cable connected to a SIIG 4 in 1 USB display adapter. I know it’s not the same resolution, but it is more pixels.

Any chance you can get your hands on a different adapter or a direct USB C to Display Port cable?

Choosing the refresh rate in Windows won’t set the rate in MacOS. You need to be able to see the menu in system preferences to make the change. Have you tried holding the option key in the displays pane of system preferences? You should see a Detect Displays button pop up. This will force the machine to check for connected displays and will sometimes resolve issues.

There is no question that MacOS is very fussy with display connections on M* systems. For instance the display adapter I’m using for DP has a handshake issue with all of the projectors on campus using hdmi giving me a green tinted screen (started after an OS update and hasn’t resolved itself yet). I use my own cheap MOKiN hub with hdmi for lectures now.

You may have to try a couple permutations until you find something that plays nice and try to avoid dongles if you can.
