Folks:

I'm very comfortable replacing a laptop screen on my own. Does anyone know if there is a way to purchase an OEM replacement screen or does Apple simply not sell those, thus moving more folks to go to Apple for repairs? There are so many non-oem offerings on Amazon that I think its a crap shoot one would ever get a really quality screen. I know OEM isn't something special or secret--I just want a replacement that will mimic OEM's quality/color/speed, etc.

Thanks,

TKH

I'm in Canada and, as far as I know, Apple and authorized repair depots are the only places to get an OEM screen; however, they will not sell without installation. I believe it's the same for the USA but not sure about other regions.

Apple will sell you parts, if you have an Apple Silicon MacBook, but it won't likely be cheaper than going to an authorized service provider and having them do the work.

Intel. Last of that breed. 2020.
In that case, the only way to get an actual OEM, new, replacement screen is through Apple or Apple authorized service providers.
You could perhaps find a used one on eBay from a parts computer but I'd assume anything claiming to be new and OEM on there will be counterfeit.

Exactly. Because of that, I basically have to brick this 2020 laptop. So lame but repair is $525 bucks. New Macbook air for a student is $400 more. Just not worth the $525. As hard as Apple "tries" or markets how green they are, not letting someone reasonably repair a damaged machine moves people to waste more.

I had the same problem back in the day with a 2012 Air. Sold it broken for 350 on ebay and bought a 2013 used one in good condition for 500.

This is your best bet, sell it as is for cheap and put that money towards a new air. Because its definitely not worth dumping $500 into an older intel model now at this point.
