Hello! I want to first say how helpful everyone on this forum has been in my gleaning information about the various aspects of the Mac world. THANK YOU.
Now, I have some questions and finally know enough to know which ones to ask!
Some of these things have been touched upon or answered in other posts, but I don't know if any part of my situation would change the answers, so I thought I would ask them all at once, if that's okay...
1) I am planning on purchasing a 20" iMac G5 at the end of the summer, a time when I am hoping there will be special deals going on that might help a poor college student save some cash. Is this a good idea? It seemed to me that the beginning of a new school year would be an opportune time to have special deals going on, but that is just a guess. Is there a specific time when Apple generally gives the best deals?
2) I work as a graphic designer, and I am also a dual major in graphic design and illustration, so I will be using a lot of various graphic programs, including but not limited to Flash, Photoshop, Poser, Director, Freehand, etc etc etc. Am I correct in assuming that the best way to go about getting the maximum RAM out of an iMac G5 is to get a 1 gig stick of RAM installed with the system, and then buy a third-party stick afterwards? Is there a cheaper/better way?
3) I've been looking over all the various types of discount, and I can't figure out what would be the best path to take. On one hand, I am a student and so could get a student discount. On the other hand, I believe I also qualify for the Student Developer's store prices. Which direction would you recommend? Do any discounts they offer work together? Would, say, a student discount apply in addition to whatever sale might currently be going on?
4) Does anyone out there work in 2-d or 3-d design and have any advice about additional components or accessories I should think about getting with my iMac? I'm already pretty sure I'll be getting a wireless mouse and keyboard, as my apartment doesn't have much desk space....what else should I be looking for?
Sorry for the long post, and thanks again for all the help you folks have already been to me. I look forward to any assistance you can offer me with my questions.
Thanks!
