Cannot update 12.1.1

I have Word 2008 installed on a Mac G4. Every time a new update comes out I gamely try to install it, and the installer searches through all of my disc partitions and tells me that the update cannot be installed on ANY of my discs. The 12.1.1 version is installed on a disc partition 76 GB in size with 46 GB free space, so free space does not seem to be a problem. My OS is Tiger Version 10.4.11, so that does not seem to be the problem. I also have a 3-user license and the others are installed on a G5 tower (which updates OK) and a G5 powerbook (also updates OK) so that it why I am suspicious that the problem could somehow be related to the problem computer being a G4. Still, G4s should work fine, shouldn't they.

Is the problem that I can only updatge first with version 12.1.2 (I cannot remember having seen a 12.1.2 updater available) and then with a 12.1.3 and so on???, up to 12.1,4 and then 12.1.5???

In that case the problem is the lack of availability of a 12.1.2 updater, because I have tried with the assumption I had to start with the lowest number superior to what I have and that doesn't seem to help.

Thanks!

Obviously, I need new ideas.

I just downloaded it last night. Be aware that if you used anything to strip out the PPC stuff from Office 2008, you will not be able to update successfully.

If you have moved your Office 2008 installation from its original place in /Applications, the updater won't work. Move it back, and if you haven't done anything else to it, it should be fine.

If you have deleted things from your Office 2008 installation, either by manually removing an app or by running an app like Xslimmer or Monolingual, the updater won't work. To fix this problem, you'll need to uninstall Office and reinstall it. If you bought Office 2008 early on and it starts at 12.0, you'll need to first update to 12.1, and then to 12.1.5. If you bought Office 2008 later and it starts at 12.1 (I think the DVDs with 12.1 started appearing on store shelves in summer 2008), you can go directly to 12.1.5. When you reinstall, make sure that you do a custom installation to remove apps or language support that you don't need.

Nadyne.
