Office 2004 slowing down my Mac

Anyone know of anyway I can speed up MS Office so that it does not slow down my Mac as much? Launching most of their apps take a long time, and they seem more sluggish in SL on my Intel Mac, then they were when I had Tiger on my PPC Mac. Thought about upgrading, but finances are tight.

Any help would be appreciated.
