Office 2008 copy paste to ichat is a failure

I select some normal text from a Office 2008 Word document. I copy it normally. I paste it into an iChat IM window normally. It requires a direct IM connection, and the text is sent as a .jpeg picture file. Any quick fixes or just some bug from Microsoft?

I can confirm the problem.

I would think maybe that upon copying in Office 20008 one is not only picking up text but also xml (which the new docx format employs). I'm also guessing iChat is converting the xml to an image in order to preserve formatting, as it obviously doesn't support xml formatted messages.

Just a guess though, and I wouldn't know whether this would be considered an apple or MS issue. I would guess Apple. But once again, I'm just guessing. I really have no idea.

Ah, I see. I don't know anything about XML and such, but I guess this is a case where more advanced is not always better?

I found a solution though; instead of regular paste, you have to select paste and match style in iChat. Only then will it paste pure text.

This same thing is happening to me. Strange thing is though, I thought I recall it working prior to installing 10.5.2. I could be wrong.

You're right though, a work around of Paste and Match Style does work, but it is slightly annoying.
