Inside my MBP 2011:
50GB Vertex 2: Boot files and Applications
320GB Stock Optibay: EVERYTHING else (desktop, documents, downloads, HOME, etc.)
Running Snow Leopard

If I download a Word file or Powerpoint file and try to open it (these are downloading to the 320GB), the following error hits me:
"Word cannot open this document. The document might be in use, the document might not be a valid Word document, or the file name might contain invalid characters (for example, <>|\"/_)."

If I type up a Word file or Powerpoint file and try to save it (to the 320GB), the following error hits me:
"Word cannot save this document due to a naming or permissions error on the destination volume"

'Saving to' and 'opening' from the 50GB Vertex 2 works just fine, but I would like to be able to do this from the 320GB instead. I have tried repairing permissions on both drives with no luck, thank you.

How is the drive formatted? Is Word the only application having trouble?

Thanks for the reply, it seems to be only Word and Powerpoint. All my other files (Photoshop PSDs, Keynote Documents, etc.) open fine from the HDD.

The SSD is formatted as Mac OSX Extended (Journaled)
The HDD is formatted the same
