Using Office 2011 on a Mac, OS X .5,.6,.7 all give an error message trying to save to one of two servers that are DFS-R (distributed file system replication) members. The error message is:
This is not a valid file name.
Try one or more of the following:
check the path to make sure it was typed correctly.
select a file from the list of files and folders.
clicking OK brings up a save as dialog box with one of the following names:
.docx.docx
.docx.docx.
.docx..docx
.docx...docx
.docx....docx
.docx.....docx
I've replaced the computer (workstation), recreated the problem on various computers for different users, created new users in AD. This happens in Office 2011 and not in Office 2008. The user can save the file locally and drag it to the server in finder. Currently they are pointed to the server at the other location. Today as a user attempted to save to the server at the other location they received an error message that was similar to:
The name is invalid or permissions are not sufficient to save to this drive.
Attempting to save as in the same folder as a different name popped up a:
You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the power button again.
This message was repeated 4 times translated.
