Since this would be for personal use, my needs for productivity software are really pretty simple. I need to keep track of my finances, make lists, and be able to open word, excel, and powerpoint files from my windows machine at work. Which would I be better off with. Also, which is easier to use and wil use less harddrive space?

in light of your interoperability needs with the documents at your office which are windows, i would suggest office would be the best bet.

Easier + Cheaper = iworks 08'

Cost more + 100% compatibility with Windows = office

Personally if it was me, iworks 08' does more than what i need.

BUT if you need to be fully compatible you might want to get office to be on the safe side. I know you can export pages to word, numbers to excel but some things you do in numbers like the charts and stuff might now load properly in office. You know, office requieres things to be much difficult than click and return.

Also i hear Keynotes BLOW powerpoint away.
