I was looking for the imessage and safari settings and realized they weren't anywhere to be seen... but of course go to the dreadded 'apps' folder where all apps you have ever downloaded are spread out in a giant list. You will find safari down under 'S'.

Man if this is how they want to do it at least have commonly used apps pinned at the top.

It's an adjustment for sure and I was confused at first too, but I think it's much better now than the way it was before. You can also use the index letters on the side of the screen to move through the list faster, rather than scrolling/flicking all the way down.

With the old way, the apps were in a random order (not alphabetical) and divided into different sections. It always took me a hot minute to find what I was after.

You may not have watched any iOS 18 related videos or read any article, or even tried the iOS 18 developer beta releases and that could be the reason you are not aware of the new changes...

help videos does not make this a good idea
I'm not talking about help videos but videos by YouTube creators that showcase the changes in iOS 18

If you have a backup of your iPhone on iOS 17, you still have time to downgrade while iOS 17.6.1 and iOS 17.7 are still signed by Apple...

If you are okay with iOS 18 but did not like a few or several of the changes, send a message to https://feedbackassistant.apple.com/

I use the Safari setting at least once per day - often more. It is a real pain now - used to be on main screen - now under apps and scroll down to the S section. It would be nice to be able to move it or is there a way to use a home screen widget or app to put it on the home screen.
i have found it shows up under the search function up top as part of the previously searched.
More time a setps to do what was easy before any other soluitions.

Create a shortcut to take you to Safari settings. Add that shortcut to your Home Screen.

Or use this link to add the shortcut if you're not familiar with creating them:

I think this is a much better approach than having an endless list of settings on the main page. Typically, I use the search function at the top of settings when I need to change the settings of a specific app.

Do you have somewhere a list of all stock app addresses or a way to get name of any other app?
I could not find correct phrase for Photos app:
PHOTOS, PHOTO, PICTURES are not working

others working phrases (after prefs:root=):
CAMERA
HEALTH
MESSAGES

thanks for showing that - totally forgot it might work for this as I used only for Battery settings reaching

Yeah, I absolutely hate this.

Default apps (Phone, Messages) should still be in the main list. The separate app list should be actual apps you’ve manually installed.

Another “change just for the sake of change” which I’ve been noticing a lot with iOS 18…

Photos would be prefs:root=Photos. It's case-sensitive and some of them aren't all-caps for some reason.

You can find a bunch more here:

How do you create this? I’ve been trying to figure out how to do something about Silence Unknown Callers since I switch that on and off so often. But creating a shortcut seems to be insanely unintuitive. I can’t figure out how to do what you did here but for other settings.

I think it might be an EU level-playing-field type change. Apple's own apps are now treated the same as third party apps instead of getting priority position in the Settings app.

The fastest way could be by saving the Shortcut @iStorm has shared and then editing the “url address” step with an address from website he has just shared or as I just searched for it use this
prefs:root=Phone&path=SILENCE_CALLS

If you would like to do this manually:
1) open Shortcuts app
2) in first page click [+] to create shortcut
3) when opened this shortcut on bottom of screen in search - search for “open url” (look for icon if my translation is not correct)
4) then type the same text as above
5) save & rename shortcut if needed by pressing on Shorcut Name on top or drop-down icon there and opening Rename

Thanks @addamas! This video may also help.

Also worth noting - there is a 'Set Silence Unknown Callers' shortcut action that can turn this on or off. That action may be more intuitive to use if building a shortcut from scratch. It helps to search the shortcut actions to see if there is already something there that does what you want to do. I whipped one together so you can see what that looks like (Silence Unknown Callers). It uses the 'Choose from Menu' action and turns it on/off according to your choice.

Don't forget that shortcuts can be added to the Control Center in iOS 18. This sounds like a good one to put there.

Tap the S on the right.

This is exactly what I was trying to accomplish! Thank you so much.

To add to this… Is there a way to “highlight” the control when the setting is enabled? Similar to how the Rotation Lock or Silent Mode controls are highlighted in white when enabled.

Sorry, but as with any real OS, why are not the settings to each app within the app? As in the past, you still may have to go fishing through several Settings to enable / unable all the various features of an app.
Stupid.

No, unfortunately we don't have any control over that. Shortcuts in the Control Center are more like buttons rather than toggles.
