Oh... My... God... (new job comes with Mac)

So... I just got hired for an IT position with a company locally... my current job of 6 years is through... the company folded.

Anyway... it's a 60/40 Mac / PC shop... and they offered me the job.

I was excited just to get into a position of IT where I get to use Macs at all...

So... after I accepted with a handshake... the main IT Director says to me:

"Come over to my office. We need to outfit you with a machine."

There are tons of G4 Powerbooks and the like lying around everywhere... and I'm expecting him to hand me one and say "Here ya go..."

But no...

He looks me dead in the eyes, and says, I swear to God...

"Do you want a Macbook or a Macbook Pro?"

I look at him kinda funny, and say "Uhhh... Pro, of course..."

So... he gets online... and orders me a brand new 2.4Ghz Macbook Pro with 7200RPM hard disk, 23" Cinema Display, and 4 Gigs Ram.

It'll be here in the next week or so.

Oh... My... God...

I just bought a Mac Pro 2.8 + 8800 GT two weeks ago for home.

How can ANY MAN be this lucky?

Three months ago I started my new job as a Mac SysAdmin. After being in IT and Software Development for almost 20 years and the last 15 in the Windows world, I got a job working exclusively with Macs.

My job involves working with all flavours of Mac Pro's from G5's to the latest and greatest. Xserve's, XSAN, Tiger and Leopard.

I was given a 2.33 17" MBP and a 24" ACD plus a 6 month old Mac Pro with 2 24" Dells (to play with Final Cut 6 on).

And I work with Video Editors, print content designers and web designers.

I too, am in career heaven.

Good for us, is all I can say.

Yeah, I am absolutely in career heaven. I'm looking forward to this job like no other, and I'm 36 years old!

And no... they bought the ram third party... lol.

I'll also be getting a few 12" PB G4s, a Dell Dual Core, and a bunch of server type machines to play with the architectures we're working with... so... my office is HUGE... and will be like a big dream room!

I'm actually taking a small cut in pay just because the job is sooo darned sweet... I'm tired of hating my life because my job is hell.

It's time to ENJOY life and what I do! :)

Oh, and no... we'll be using all those G4s... haha :)

Seriously... why didn't I think of this YEARS ago. I might not have gray hair now if I had... :D (seriously... lol)
 
Don't you just hate it when you save up for ages for a macbook then someone gets a free macbook pro? :p

Not saying that you don't deserve it of course :cool:
 
You should have looked him dead back into his eyes and told him 3.2ghz mac pro with a 30" ACD please!!

Nice. Two years ago, I got the 2.16Ghz Macbook Pro 17" for my IT workplace and I was only 17.
 
Unfortunately for me, the firm I work for are totally Windows....!!!

But, wow! Nice one !!!
 
Congratulations :)

2 years ago, when I was 19 and got my first job, the company I worked for bought me a 1.83GHz MacBook Pro. It was the very first Mac they'd have to deal with, and they were very reluctant to get it. Thankfully, Parallels and Boot Camp were enough to convince them :)

Enjoy your new MacBook Pro, and your new job :)
