so I got my old 3gs out of the box today to charge it up and get it ready to sell. I just put the 3gs next to the iphone 4 and I kept trying to clean the screen on the 3gs cause it looked so foggy compared to the iphone 4's retina display. wow. I don't think I could ever go back to using a 3GS after the 4. i'm spoiled! Totally pointless thread just thought I'd share haha.

I am impressed with the retina display on the iPhone 4. It is a pleasant experience for my eyes. It is amazing how technology evolves. I wonder how technology will top the retina display.

I totally agree in my opinion the iPhone 4 screen is one of the best screens of all time, I upgraded from a 3GS just for the screen, the better cameras etc. are just bonuses

Retina display= awesome. I love it so much its easier reading text on the screen now

True that!!! My wife uses my old 3GS and i find it hard to focus on her phone when i snoop! :) I just give up through frusteration on not being able to read safari pages when if full screen. lol

Apple did a really good job with the retina display. I wonder is why hasn't any phone since come out with a better display than 640x960

I usually keep my screen on the less than brighter side so I don't notice it as much. However, when I do crank it up a bit when I need it the screen truly is phenomenal.

I'm also Wondering why no other phone has meet or beat it yet either.

It's because the other phone manufacturers are going for the marketable spec of a larger screen, which makes it harder to get as hard as a ppi. Still, I wonder why nobody has gotten that high of a resolution yet. Maybe Apple is buying up all the High Res displays?

Holding my iPhone 4 next to my Droid Incredible, I feel like I'm looking through a screen door when I look at the Incredible. I also don't like how it has such a bluish tint to it.

There have already been displays that are larger and that offer a higher PPI, but not on phones.

For phones, there's the Meizu M9 which came out last year. Has the same resolution, same size.

Oh, and a Toshiba phone that came out in 2007 had a PPI of 313. Looks like Apple didn't do it first after all, as usual.

Also, the Incredible has a PPI of 252. Get real.

Your facts are wrong. Nice try though.

First, the Meizu M9 launched well after the iPhone (It went on sale New Years day, 2011), second the Toshiba phone you talk about is the Portege G900 which doesn't matter anyway since the PPI you speak of is 313 where the iPhone has a PPI of 326 so yes, Apple did it first, as usual.

Yea, he'll spin anything to put down the iPhone, to this day the iP4 still has the best mobile display, period. Everytime I check out a friends oled screen on an Android they look like dogcrap compared to the iP4 display.

I'm starting to realize who the apple haters are on this forum I see them spouting the same crap in every thread. No my question. If you think apple sucks so bad why are you at an apple forum? Lot of free time available I guess.

I agree that even after 7 months of owning my iPhone 4, the retina display still impresses me. Even when I'm at Best Buy, and I look at the Android, BlackBerry phones, their displays still do not impress me as much as the iPhone 4 does.

Every time I pull my iPhone 4 out my pocket it feels like something from the future. The screen is just amazing, though I wish it were an inch bigger.

I'm still impressed by it day after day myself. I've never seen a screen with so much clarity before.

Agreed. My sister has my old iPhone 3GS and every time I use it I'm just left amazed at how different the screens really are. It really is almost impossible to go back to a normal screen after using the Retina display from the iPhone 4.

the SE Xperia X1 had a ppi of 312 and was released in 2008

2008

I'm sure 312 is less then 326 so what's your point?

His point is that 312 is still damn impressive for a phone, especially for one thats 3 years old. You guys get so defensive, Apple isn't the only company that makes good stuff.

"It turns out that there’s a magic number right around 300 pixels per inch that when you hold some thing around 10 or 12 inches away from your eyes is the limit of the human retina to differentiate the pixels."

care to guess who i'm quoting?
