When I installed Catalina on 2012 MacPro cMP, using DosDude2's patch, and a video he had posted, the disk drive I formated for the installation and put Catalina onto was a 1 TB HDD I had available. It has worked great for years, but it is slow at times.

Would the installation work ok if I put it onto an SSD instead? SAMSUNG MZHPU512HCGL-000H1 Media

Any information you can give me will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Yes. Using an SSD instead of an HDD would not just "work OK", you would have improved response, with noticeably improved performance.
There's much better price for a Samsung NVMe than the one you posted - https://www.amazon.com/Technology-Intelligent-Turbowrite-MZ-V8V1T0B-AM/dp/B08V7GT6F3/ (unless you already have purchased that SSD...)

Make sure you have the latest version of the DOSDUDE1 patcher for Catalina - https://dosdude1.com/catalina/
(I think you will be disappointed if you look for a DosDude2 patch, web site is still dosdude1  )

The SSD I posted is the one I have.

I never understood the dosdude 1 vs 2. The patch i have is dosdude1. I don't remember where I picked up the dosdude2 label
