Today I bought a 17" 2011 MacBook Pro as a replacement for my old 2010 13" Macbook Pro. The 2011 one I bought used so it came with Leopard pre installed, I tried to upgrade it to lion but had a few problems when restarting the computer.

My old 2010 Macbook was working fine, so would it be ok to simply take the old hard drive and put it in the new Macbook? Would there be any problems?

Why don't you just try it? It's not like it's time consuming.

FWIW, I personally don't think it's a good idea, but I'm pretty sure that if your 2010 MBP was running the latest version of everything, it would work.
