If you’re going to be typing more than a few words on a frequent basis then go get a wireless keyboard unless you feel like Siri is good at understanding yo as it is right now.
I happened to have an older wireless Magic Keyboard from a previous iMac and it works great. For browsing the web I have my favorite websites bookmarked in Safari so I use those instead of typing URLs but if I’m going to be searching Google for something, typing an e-mail or more than a word or two then I’m going with the physical keyboard. I keep it next to the couch out of sight.
IMO the keyboard is the #1 reason why we need Apple Intelligence, specifically the Siri improvements we’ve seen so far and will continue to see in iOS 18, ported to the Vision Pro if it’s possible. At a minimum everything but the ChatGPT integration should be ported. Otherwise you’re like me then you’re SOL without a physical keyboard to use it as a productivity device.
Siri was so bad for me that I rarely used it for anything, let alone attempt to dictate anything using it, but that’s changed with the improvements I’ve seen in iOS and iPadOS in 18.0, 18.1, 18.2 and so far in the first 18.3 beta release.
It’s usable now on my iPhone and iPad in a way it just wasn’t prior to iOS 18 but I’m so used to and proficient enough with the virtual keyboard on my iPhone and iPad that I don’t need a physical keyboard in the way I do with the AVP.
Yeah, if you’re in a room with others going the dictation route would be annoying but the AVP isn’t a device I use when other people are around. I use it when I’m by myself so for me the Siri improvements alone in Apple Intelligence (again minus the ChatGPT integration which I love on the phone and iPad but don’t really need on the AVP) would be a nice alternative to having to use a physical keyboard.
