Okay to mix a 2gb and a 1gb stick in my late '08 MBP?

I'm looking into a ram upgrade and have found a cheap, singular 2gb stick for sale on another forum. Is it okay to mix this with my original 1gb stick, giving me 3gb total?

I know ideally they should be run in matched pairs, but surely this would be okay?

I have a 4GB and 2GB stick in my MBP, runs fine, you won't have any issues.
