Guys,

Hoping this is going to be a simple Q&A. My GF has a 3G with 4.0JB I think it is. Is it safe to plug it into iTunes and update to 4.2 and remove the JB or is there another way you have to do this?

Thanks

if you are on AT&T and don't really care about baseband unlock, then the answer is yes. just plug it into Itunes and hit restore. The iphone will be updated with the latest firmware as well as remove the JB.

as per your info, your GF's iphone currently has a IOS 4.0 which means it has a baseband of 05.13. This baseband can be unlocked with ultrasn0w. Once you update her iphone through itunes to IOS4.2.1, the iphone baseband will also upgrade to 05.15. currently, ultrasn0w can't unlock this new baseband. All of these I am talking about might not apply to you if you are with AT&T.
