Hello - I'd like to know if one can buy old AppleCare (not plus) and use it on a new iPad air 2? I understand it won't cover accidental damage butt would it extend the warranty by a year?

Don't think so. Think they only sell AppleCare+ now.

I understand apple only sells plus but was wondering if I bought it from another authorised dealer?

Old AppleCare has been gone for over two years, so even if you could buy it third party, it would have expired. Applecare + is the only option available from Apple. Square trade is also something to consider
