I did a couple of searches here with "umax scanner" or variations and was unable to find a thread related to the problem we have with our iMac.
We have one of the old blue iMacs. Powerpc G3 processor and os 9.2.2. The scanner is a umax - astra 2100u.
The problem for a while now has been that if the scanner is not connected or turned on, then the imac will not start up properly. Just now it got to the main desktop, then froze up. Other times it will not get past the welcome screen. But if the scanner is connected and turned on, the iMac will work just fine.
Does anybody have an idea of some setting that I may have wrong somewhere or any other ideas on what the issue would be?? I am asking because we haven't used the scanner since wifey upgraded to a new mac and scanner/printer recently and I don't want to have to keep that scanner if possible.
