I am not so sure where to put this.. I was thinking either peripherals, iMac, or macbook air.
So I have a 2011 macbook air with a thunderbolt and want an external display. I was thinking of a refurbished 24" apple cinema display, but that is to large! So I was looking around at craigslist and found some iMacs from 299. It was pre intel though. Could I use an older iMac (maybe one of the early intel ones) as an external display?

This is the perfect size..
Any insight on using a used iMac as an external display for my thunderbolt macbook air would be appreciated,
Thanks

If i'm not mistaken it's impossible to use iMacs as display only.

Nope. I'm trying to stay away from G5's. I have too many PPC Macs right now, don't need any more.

If you had 1 computer, a macbook air, would you get one? My uses for the machine would be would for word prossecing, listening to music, watching tv shows from iTunes and viewing photos

Sure, but only after I checked real hard for an Intell one and made sure the G5 I was about to get didn't have any problems.

i was going to get it off ebay so i would not be able to tell.
Would you be able to recceomend a cheap iMac

A cheap iMac? The G3's cost only about $20, but shipping will kill you. The G4's have fallen in price, but can still cost a bit. The G5's, are good. So long as you don't get one with problems. Early Intell iMac's are good and don't have many problems. Later C2D Intell iMac's are still fetching good prices on eBay, as are the Aluminum ones. In my opinion the perfect balance of cost vs. longevity vs. usability are the early Intell CD and CS iMacs. But, if money is tight, a G5 would work.

what about this? this seems good.

That is a new-ish one, but still very good with lots of life left. I expect that to sell around $800.
