This is a combo question.
Old G4 Flat Panel iMac running OS 10.4.11 (good enough for the kids - yes have newer MacBook but thats not relevant here). Also is connected to the external HDD which serves as my backup but also holds my fairly huge iTunes Library. ISP is Verizon FiOS (vroom) which is connected to old iMac with one of five Cat 5 ports (the empty 4 are also not relevant, I dont think) but also covers the house in wifi (encrypted if it matters). Bought a 2 year old Airport Express and have it connected to the stereo upstairs via Airtunes. Downloaded the "Remote" app on the iPhone to control the thing.
END STATE: Stream the music from old iMac to stereo - more or less as advertised by Apple, though with old and semi-old hardware. Want to leave the iMac connected to FiOS via the Cat 5 (needs all the speed it can get) but use WiFi to stream to the stereo/Express.
1. Can the iMac run internet via wired connection to the router AnD turn on wifi?
2. Do I need to?
3. Do I need to connect the Airport Express to the iMac via the one LAN port to set it up THEN unplug and swap back to the FiOS router?
4. Do I ned a separate Network created ("MusicStreamer-unsecured") or can they all connect to the default one from the router ("ABC123-secured")?
Any advice before I start randomly trying things and messing up my new FiOS conection?
Thanks,
JW
