Hi all,

I have a couple old imacs that I don't use. One is a "fixed" one Apple sent me back when I was in the middle of getting an Applecare replacement.

I am interested in taking out the optical drive and putting it in an enclosure and using it. Is that even possible? I've never done anything like that so forgive my ignorance if it's not a possibility. I just figured if it works for hard drives it should work for optical drives.

Thanks, Allison

They're both G5 iMacs, one is Rev. A and the other I believe is Rev. C.

Those have slimline PATA optical drives. Enclosure for that kind of drive do exist, but they are hard to find and can be expensive.
