old iMac question

I know this is ancient stuff im dealing with, but it is all my aunt has and Im trying to get her connected to the internet. Shes got an iMac from i think 99, running OS 9.2. I installed her dial up provider software, and it told me the modem was not connecting and to make sure it was enabled in the system preferences, problem is i have no idea where system preferences is and i know nothing about Macs. I could really use some help.

Under the Apple Menu go to Control Panels, find Modem there.

i tried that, there were only a few options and none of them were to enable the device, am i missing a tab or did i just overlook something

did you try the tcp/ip control panel? my recollection is that you have to set that up too
