I'm replacing my iPhone 3G with the 4S, scheduled for Friday delivery.

I'd like to give my 3G to a relative who leaves town tomorrow (Thursday).

I'm assuming since all iPhone stuff is backed up on my iTunes on my iMac, I don't need the actual 3G to activate and set up my new 4S when it arrives on Friday.

Correct?

Correct. Your old iPhone is not needed. It would be a bad idea if it was because what if you lost it and got a replacement phone?
